William Ebenezer Brainard was a farmer, engineer, pilot, and riverboatman. He and his wife Elizabeth Marie lived on their farm on Baseline Road (Stark Street) east of Mount Tabor. They dedicated a small section of their land as a cemetery in 1884, though some graves date to the 1870s. Several Civil War veterans are buried here.
Multnomah County acquired the cemetery in 1953.
