In 1846, the church purchased nine acres on Lemp Avenue to serve as its first cemetery. As St. Louis grew, it soon became clear that this small property would not be adequate. In July 1855, the church purchased 34 acres of land at the cemetery's present location on Lucas and Hunt Road from John F. Darby. The first burial at the new site was made in October of that year. Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Wildwood, MO, was moved to this cemetery on 7/10/1972.
