Cloudsledge was the personal residence and restoration project of Harold Thornton Stearns and Claudia Davis Stearns. They acquired the site in 1946, building their home and restoring the logged-over land. Claudia designed the house, and Harold built much of the stonework around the house. They replanted the forest and landscaped much of the grounds. They are buried beside a large boulder near the homestead. The Cloudsledge Conservation Trust now administers it.
