- Notes:
Camp Mooney was established by Confederate forces in March 1863 as a picket camp during the third occupation of Jacksonville by Union forces. After a short stay, Union troops would abandon Jacksonville, and Confederate troops would return to Camp Finegan, two miles west.
After the Battle of Olustee (Fed 20, 1864), Union forces used Camp Mooney as a picker camp until March 1, 1864. When in a running skirmish, Confederate forces drove them back to Three Mile Run (Stockton Street area).
Local legend says Confederate dead from this March 1, 1864 action are buried here.
Camp Mooney was named after George Mooney, whose home was near here.
