Oro Grande Cemetery

The site has a remarkably early history. The first recorded burial occurred in 1852, during the California Gold Rush era, although the cemetery was not formally established until around 1890 (originally as the Bennette Memorial Park). It served the small mining and railroad community of Oro Grande, which grew around gold mining, cement production (the historic Riverside Cement plant still operates nearby), and the railroad.

The cemetery contains approximately 130–150 marked graves and several unmarked ones, including some believed to belong to Native Americans who lived in the area before formal establishment. Burials continued into the mid-1960s. Ownership was transferred to San Bernardino County in the 1970s, and the San Bernardino County Museum now manages it as a historic site.

In 2023, the San Bernardino County Museum officially added it to its list of historic sites. It is also designated as a California Point of Historical Interest (P404). A memorial honors Lt. Manuel P. Rodriguez, a local soldier who died in 1942 during World War II (his Purple Heart is displayed at the Victor Valley Museum).
