- Notes:
The cemetery was established in the late 1800s / early 1900s to serve the railroad workers, miners, and families living in this extremely isolated stretch of desert. It lies north of the railroad tracks, near the former site of the railroad depot. There are roughly 15–20 graves (some counts say about 17), most marked with weathered wooden crosses or simple stones. Many markers are now illegible or missing, and some graves are outlined only with rocks.
The cemetery reflects the harsh realities of life in one of the driest and most remote sections of Route 66. After I-40 bypassed the area in the early 1970s, Bagdad rapidly became a true ghost town. Today, almost nothing remains of the town itself except scattered debris, one iconic lone tree (often photographed), and this lonely cemetery.
