Amboy Cemetery

The cemetery was established in the early 20th century (likely around the 1910s–1920s) as Amboy developed as a railroad siding and later a Route 66 service stop. Amboy itself dates back to 1883 as one of the alphabetical railroad stations (A for Amboy) built by the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad (later Santa Fe). The town saw modest growth with mining, ranching, and especially the arrival of U.S. Route 66 in 1926. Roy’s Motel & Café (opened in 1938) became its most famous landmark.

The cemetery contains approximately 47 graves inside the fenced area, with a few additional burials outside the fence line. Most graves are unmarked or have very simple markers — only a handful have legible names. Confirmed burials include two infants from the Montiel family. Many of those interred here were likely railroad workers, miners, local ranching families, or travelers who died in the harsh desert environment.
