The cemetery was officially established in 1917 (with planning and land claims beginning around 1915–1916). It was created when the older Pioneer Cemetery (near downtown) became difficult to maintain. Many remains from the earlier burial ground were relocated here. The cemetery was developed by the Mountain View Cemetery Association, and the City of Kingman has long owned and maintained it.
The grounds have grown to include thousands of burials (over 10,000 documented), spanning from the late 19th century pioneers to modern times.
